Prepping Your Pool for Memorial Day

This weekend is going to be the kick-off to the summer, and for many people, the opening of their pool! Hopefully, you've already had us come out and de-winterize it and make sure that everything is in good working order. There are still a few things you should keep an eye on, though, before letting everyone jump in for a fun weekend of celebrating with family, food and remembering those who have served our country. Here is a walkthrough you can do for your pool before the guests arrive.

Test The Water

Several days before you jump into the pool, you'll want to make sure that the chemicals are all correct in the pool, and if they aren't, address those in plenty of time. The PH levels, alkalinity, calcium and chlorine should all be at the appropriate levels, and if you don't know how to test this, give us a call and schedule an appointment. It's important to make sure that the levels are correct before everyone arrives, as some need a day or two to set before people get in.

Inspect the Exterior

When you hire us to de-winterize your pool, we do a walk around to make sure that there aren't any cracks, stains or algae growth. These can all be signs that something more sinister could be lurking in your pool system, and it's always best to catch them ahead of time. Even if you checked them within the last month, it's still a good idea to keep an eye open and make sure that nothing else has popped up since then. If you notice any cracks or leaks, be sure to call the best pool maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we'll get it fixed for you.

Wipe Down the Furniture

Take a look at all of the patio furniture and pool toys. After they've sat out or in storage for several months they can be dusty and covered in cobwebs. Rinse everything down and make sure that no repairs or replacements need to be made.

Keep An Eye on Electrical Equipment

Once you have more people jumping in your pool, the pump and filter will have to work overtime to keep the water clear. Make sure to look everything over and check to see if it all looks and sounds right. The filter will need to be cleaned with a hose, but if you notice any issue arise as you are checking things over, call the professionals.

Observe Safety Features

It's always a good idea to have specific safety features in place, especially if you'll have small children running around the pool. You can consider a fence around the area or a gate that closes automatically so they can't get in when they aren't supervised. When your pool isn't in use, you should lock the pool, and make sure that no one breaks in.

Ways You Can Attract Birds and Butterflies To Your Landscape

Beautiful blooms, green grass, and of course, colorful bird and butterflies are just a few of the reasons we love summer. It's a great season to get out and enjoy your landscape, and find new ways to enjoy it. When you hire Paradise Landscaping, we help you create a space that will be enjoyed for years to come, and really focuses on the aspects that make your yard special. If one of your favorite pastimes is to watch the birds and butterflies flit through your yard, there are a few ways we can encourage that! Here are a few plants and flowers that will bring in the winged creatures and give you, even more, reasons to love your Lake of the Ozarks landscape.

Have a Large Variety of Plants

If you want to invite the birds and butterflies into your yard, the best way to their heart is through their stomach. A wildlife-friendly yard or garden are filled with a variety of berries, seeds, and flowers from plantings of annuals, perennials, vines, and grasses.

Feature Nectar Rich Blossoms

A good way to attract hummingbirds and butterflies is through nectar-rich plants. You'll find that Cosmos, zinnias, verbena, fuschia, and cleome are easy-to-grow annuals that attract both species. Butterflies are especially fond of butterfly bush and purple coneflowers. When we create a custom landscape at the Lake of the Ozarks for your, we are certain to make sure and find plants that achieve what you want. If you are trying to attract birds and butterflies, be sure to let us know so we can incorporate special plants into your landscape.

Include More Trees & Shrubs

Trees and shrubs are fabulous places for your birds not only to find shelter but also extra food as well. You'll want to incorporate pines, firs, spruces, junipers, cedars, and yews. Birds like to eat the berries and nuts from different trees, and they can also hide their nests in them as well. Trees are also great for more than just increasing your bird population! You can read our article about The Benefits of Having Trees In Your Yard to learn more!

Add Shelter for the Birds

While trees and shrubs do provide shelter, you can also include bird boxes and platforms for the birds to find extra security in. These can be as elaborate as you would like, and can often times fit in perfectly with the design of your home and landscape.

Don't Forget to Feed Them!

Your birds can find food on their own, but if you really want to encourage them to reside in your backyard paradise, you can feed them! They love varieties of seeds and nuts, as well as water baths. There are many local stores you can shop at to find the supplies you need. The birds will thank you for it!

Landscape Maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks

With all of the rainy nights and warm sunny days we've been experiencing, I'm sure you're beginning to notice that your lawn is starting to grow like a weed - literally. From overgrown grass to fall leaves still lying in corners of your lawn, there are so many things to get out at do, but who has the time? At Paradise Landscaping, we can do all of the hard work for you, and keep your Lake of the Ozarks landscape looking beautiful all year long. Our landscape maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks is a great way to keep a beautiful lawn without having to lift a finger.

Here are a few things you can expect to see happen in your yard when we start maintaining it for you!

Mowing

Weekly mowing can be very beneficial to your yard because it never allows it to get out of hand. Grass grows most during the peak growing season, and for most landscapes, that's in the summer. At Paradise Landscaping, we will come out to your property and keep it mowed and kept up without you having to even lay a finger.

Trimming

If you want to keep your yard looking beautiful and pristine, weekly trimming around trees and sidewalks is a must. This is also a safety measure, because if you have any stumps, holes, dips off the sidewalk, etc, keeping the grass trimmed will allow people to see these before they trip.

Blowing Off Surfaces

This may seem like a useless task, I mean, doesn't the wind just blow them off? While the wind can blow surfaces off, it's important to blow or sweep them off yourself so people can see where they're walking.

Turf Treatments

Just like you need a little helping hand with your health, sometimes your lawn needs a little boost with a turf treatment! Don't neglect your lawn by just leaving it to fend for itself. We can apply turf treatments and keep your landscape looking beautiful all summer long.

Tree & Shrub Fertilization

Just like your grass needs fertilizer, so do your trees and shrubs! We can help you out by applying the fertilizer at the appropriate time in the appropriate way.

Pruning

Sometimes pruning is necessary to remove diseased or storm-damaged branches, or to thin the crown and allow new growth. Other times it's to reduce the height of the tree or shape it for design purpose. No matter what the reasoning, every tree needs a little pruning every now and then, and we can help prune trees at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Leaf Collection & Disposal

Do you still have fall leaves piled in your yard? We all get behind on basic landscape maintenance, but you could save yourself some time by hiring us to come out and take care of them for you!

Mulching

We can lay new mulch to really make your gardens and trees really pop! Do you have company coming over, or are you selling you home? This could be just what you need to make your yard stand out.

Power Washing

Every so often your landscapes areas may need power washed. From the decks and porches to the sidewalks, this can really improve the appearance of your yard.

Do you need someone to check up on your home while you're away? We can help with that!

3 Benefits of Having Trees In Your Yard

The mighty oak, or really any other tree can be a majestic sight, and in your yard, they aren't just for looks. A tree can be a very functional option for your yard and even for your neighborhood. At Paradise Landscaping, we want to help you bring out the beauty in your yard with the best landscaping design at the Lake of the Ozarks, yet also, increase the benefits that it can offer you. Here are a few reasons that having trees in your yard can be helpful and beautiful!

Environment

Did you know that trees are like the lungs of our world? They breathe in the carbon dioxide, and the breathe out oxygen, providing fresh, clean air for us to breathe. They also provide a place for birds insects and other wildlife to live and play. Here are a few other things trees do for us:
  • Trees help reduce ozone levels so much so that many urban areas incorporate trees to drop the ozone levels by as much as 4 parts per billion.
  • They can also help reduce the urban runoff and erosion by storing water, and making the runoff less damaging to the dirt underneath it.
  • Did you know that trees can absorb sound and reduce noise pollution? If you live near busy roads, in some cases some well-planted trees can really help limit that noise!

Economic

There are health benefits to having trees, and just being around them can make you feel good. There are also social benefits linked to having trees because the entire neighborhood can experience better physical and mental health just from trees. There are also studies that have proved that children with learning disorders like ADHD can see improvement just from being in the presence of trees.

Energy

Trees can help keep your utility bill lower because they can keep your home cooler in the summer. The Arbor Day Foundation states that the overall effect of the shade created by planting a healthy tree is equivalent to 10 room-size air conditioners running 20 hours a day! In the winter trees can act as a windbreak, which can help save on heating costs. In fact, some claim that heating costs can reach as much as 25 percent.

Improve Your Yard With Trees

As you can see, trees offer many benefits to your yard, and these are just a few. Of course, trees can take several years to mature, so if you want to reap the benefits, you'll need to start planting now. At Paradise Landscaping, we can help you achieve all of your Lake of the Ozark landscaping dreams, from trees to beautiful flowers, stone walls and water features.
