The 411 on Landscape Flooding

If you look at the forecast, we have a lot of rain headed our way. While this could change without warning (because we're in the Midwest, the weather doesn't obey *wink*), it could even rain more than expected. At Paradise Landscaping, we are the best landscapers at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we want to give you tips and things you can expect and look for when you get a lot of rain on your landscape.

Landscape Damage

When your landscape gets too much water it can become flooded - especially with landscapes that are made up of too much clay. It's important to be aware of your landscape when it becomes flooded because you won't want to drag anything across it. If you can keep from walking across it as well, that would be beneficial. If your lawn gets flooded too often, or even when there is very little rain you may have a drainage issue. Paradise Landscaping would be able to come in and take a look to find where the drainage issue is occurring and we can help you fix it.

Be Aware of Disease

When too much water sits in your landscape, you could be at risk for disease in your plants. It starts in the roots, causing them to rot and can then lead to a diseased yard. You can tell this is happening when you start to notice yellow patches in your yard. Once a fungus sets in, it can be hard to repair it, and generally, the only option is to reseed it in the fall. Too much water can also cause shallow root growth because they don't have to go down deep to find water. Shallow root growth can then cause the grass to become stressed, which can make it more prone to damage from insects as well.

Fill Up On Fertilizer

Because your landscape is getting too much water, there are many vital nutrients that are being washed away. They won't have the chance to be absorbed into the root system, and then your lawn will start to fade quickly. You'll want to use plenty of fertilizer to help compensate for the lack of nutrients. At Paradise Landscaping, we can help you find the correct fertilizer for your landscaping as well as apply it for you.
