How to Throw the BEST Patio Party

Step 1: Invite your guests and give them plenty of notice.
Whether you choose to use social media, possibly create a Facebook event or send out paper invites in the mail, give your guests plenty of time to plan whether or not they can go. Try giving two and a half weeks lead time.

Step 2: Be sure to have plenty of seating.
Have you ever been to a patio party and you felt like you had to stand the whole time? It's uncomfortable, right? Give your guests plenty of seating on the patio. Whether you bring in easy folding chairs or buy more patio chairs - just be sure you have enough seating for everyone. You can also look into wall seating, which can be a convenient patio feature.

Step 3: Buy patio lights.
Set the mood and make for a safer evening patio party and buy patio lights. You can use string lights or a more permanent lighting solution.

From the latest intelligent LED options to traditional incandescent choices, Paradise offers Kichler's complete landscape collection and it delivers exactly what you need.

Step 4: Prep-cook anything you possibly can.
It can feel awkward if you are still "running around in the kitchen" when your guests arrive. Who will entertain? Do everything you possibly can before hand, for example:

  • Chop vegetables
  • Prepare casseroles
  • Have appetizers ready when guest arrive

Check out this amazing appetizer recipe we found that could be great for patio parties:

1 onion, thinly sliced
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 (12 oz) container sour cream (regular or dairy free)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp chopped fresh parsley

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the onion slices. Spread the onions out evenly over the pan and let cook, stirring occasionally for about 10-15 minutes or until onions are slightly caramelized (but not burnt).

In a medium bowl, stir together onions and remaining ingredients (reserving a little crumbled bacon and parsley) until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for a couple hours. Serve chilled with reserved bacon and parsley sprinkled on top.

Step 5: Keep bugs away.
Buy citronella candles and have fans going to try and prevent annoying bugs from pestering your guests.

Step 6: Plan the tunes!
You may want to invest in a portable speaker that is Bluetooth friendly. Have your playlist ready to go and have your phone synced when your guests arrive. That way there's already background music going and the mood is set when guests arrive.

Step 7: Have kid-friendly activities at the ready.
Entertain your younger guests by having kid-friendly outdoor games ready, such as:

  • Badmitten
  • Limbo
  • Beanbag Toss
  • Frisbees

This way kids can still be outdoors where their parents can keep an eye on them and keep them busy while socializing at the patio party.
