Prepping Your Pool for Memorial Day

This weekend is going to be the kick-off to the summer, and for many people, the opening of their pool! Hopefully, you've already had us come out and de-winterize it and make sure that everything is in good working order. There are still a few things you should keep an eye on, though, before letting everyone jump in for a fun weekend of celebrating with family, food and remembering those who have served our country. Here is a walkthrough you can do for your pool before the guests arrive.

Test The Water

Several days before you jump into the pool, you'll want to make sure that the chemicals are all correct in the pool, and if they aren't, address those in plenty of time. The PH levels, alkalinity, calcium and chlorine should all be at the appropriate levels, and if you don't know how to test this, give us a call and schedule an appointment. It's important to make sure that the levels are correct before everyone arrives, as some need a day or two to set before people get in.

Inspect the Exterior

When you hire us to de-winterize your pool, we do a walk around to make sure that there aren't any cracks, stains or algae growth. These can all be signs that something more sinister could be lurking in your pool system, and it's always best to catch them ahead of time. Even if you checked them within the last month, it's still a good idea to keep an eye open and make sure that nothing else has popped up since then. If you notice any cracks or leaks, be sure to call the best pool maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we'll get it fixed for you.

Wipe Down the Furniture

Take a look at all of the patio furniture and pool toys. After they've sat out or in storage for several months they can be dusty and covered in cobwebs. Rinse everything down and make sure that no repairs or replacements need to be made.

Keep An Eye on Electrical Equipment

Once you have more people jumping in your pool, the pump and filter will have to work overtime to keep the water clear. Make sure to look everything over and check to see if it all looks and sounds right. The filter will need to be cleaned with a hose, but if you notice any issue arise as you are checking things over, call the professionals.

Observe Safety Features

It's always a good idea to have specific safety features in place, especially if you'll have small children running around the pool. You can consider a fence around the area or a gate that closes automatically so they can't get in when they aren't supervised. When your pool isn't in use, you should lock the pool, and make sure that no one breaks in.
