5 Tips to Protect Your Lawn from Firework Damage this 4th of July Weekend

The 4th of July is almost here and the fireworks have already started around the Lake of the Ozarks. You've spent a lot of time and money getting your lawn in tip top shape for summer and our lawn care company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help you keep it that way. Paradise Landscaping has provided some helpful tips as to how you can better protect your lawn from potential firework damage this holiday weekend.

Tip #1: Keep Water Close By

Have a bucket of water on hand to quickly extinguish a stray spark or other flames that could be caused by a firework. Being able to put out a fire in a timely manner can help keep your lawn healthy and looking good!

Tip #2: Find a Good Launch Location

Be aware of your surroundings when shooting off fireworks. Try to find a spot that's relatively flat and as far away from your observers and structures as possible. This can help reduce the chance of someone of something being struck by a firework or other firework debris. Also, think about a getaway path for the person who is lighting the fireworks. Once a firework is lit, it's important for the person to be able to retreat to a safe distance in a hurry. Ensure there are no obstacles for this person to trip over as they are backing to a safe spot to enjoy the fireworks.

Tip #3: Clear Yard Before Shooting

Limbs, leaves, and grass clippings are all items that could potentially catch fire quickly. It's best to remove this kind of debris from your lawn before shooting any fireworks off. A random spark or wild firework could get out of control and having dry wood, leaves, or grass around can turn a spark into a larger fire in a hurry.

Tip #4: Clean Up Firework Debris

Fireworks leave trash and other particles around your yard, after exploding. It's recommended that you take a couple laps around your lawn to ensure all of the debris is cleared. This debris can potentially damage your lawn and can be dangerous the next time our lawn crew is out mowing your yard.

Tip #5: Remove Your Launch Pad ASAP

It can be helpful to shoot many larger fireworks from a flat surface. Laying a large piece of wood on the ground is a popular way to give yourself a nice flat area to launch from. Remember to clear your launch pad as soon as you're done shooting off fireworks. If not, the grass under your pad will be smashed down and could die if the pad is left there long enough.

With these tips to better protect your lawn, you're ready to make your weekend plans. Just remember to keep these tips in mind as you're preparing your space for your awesome fireworks show for your friends, family, and neighbors! Our landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks wishes you and yours a safe 4th of July Weekend!
