Pet Proof your Yard with Paradise Landscaping

At Paradise Landscaping, we create custom landscapes at the Lake of the Ozarks so that you have a perfect paradise to love and enjoy. We realize that a huge part of your family could be cute little Fido and that sometimes, your furry friend can be hard on your lawn. We love him as much as you do, and that's why we're providing you with some great tips to keep your lawn looking fresh and safe for your pet at the same time.

LANDSCAPES VS THE DIGGER
Does your furry friend just LOVE to get out and tear through the dirt looking for animals, insects, or buried toys? We don't blame them! This is a wonderful pastime that dogs are known for, but if you want a beautiful landscape, you'll have to find ways to convince your pet that they would rather dig somewhere else. Some pet owners have found that a large dirt or sandbox specifically for digging enjoyment has helped ease the need for your dog to dig in your flower bed. You can also opt for larger, heavier duty metal landscape edging. This may help keep the mulch in the garden bed, and not your landscape.

DOGSCAPING YOUR YARD
This is an actual term, and it implies exactly what you think it does - creating a space that is safe for your dog. You don't have to do any major renovations or attach a huge price tag to creating this safe space, and with a little help from your favorite Lake of the Ozarks Landscapers, your space will be safe in no time.

PROTECTING THE GRASS
Your grass may be at risk when you have a dog, especially if you have a dog run where they continually apply wear and tear to a very specific area in your yard. You'll want a hearty grass that can stand up to the constant running back and forth. Pet urine can also be a factor when your landscape starts looking "ruff." The highly concentrated levels of nitrogen and soluble salts can have a burn effect on lawns. You can keep this to a minimum by washing or spraying the area down with water to help dilute the concentration. If your landscape is showing signs of wear and tear, you can always call Paradise Landscaping. We'll come out and take a look at your landscape and help you work towards creating a green space with fewer patches.

PLANTING PET-SAFE PLANTS
While dogs and cats primarily eat meat, there are occasions where they will eat grass and other plants in your yard. When this happens, you'll want to make sure that the plants you have are not harmful to your pet. You will also want to let us know that you have pets when we start to landscape your yard so that there won't be any chance of us adding something that would be dangerous for them. Here are a few plants and mulches that you want to avoid when you have pets.
  • Daffodil
  • Lily
  • Morning Glory
  • Oleander
  • Sago Palm
  • Cocoa Mulch
  • Pine, Cedar & Hemlock Mulch
  • Rubber Mulch
