How to Enjoy Your Landscape with Family!

In the midst of our chaotic lifestyles sometimes we need to be reminded, it's important to spend time with each other. This can be especially hard since school has started up, sports and activities are in full swing, and everyone is busy - but you need to take some time to really appreciate each other! At Paradise Landscaping, we know that one of the hearts of your home is in your landscape, and that's why we work so hard to create a beautiful landscape at the Lake of the Ozarks for you to enjoy. Here are a few ways you can get outside to appreciate your perfect paradise AND spend time with those that you love.

Have a BBQ

Utilize that beautiful patio area that you have one more time before you have to shut it down for the season! Grab your favorite grilling tools, some delicious food & drinks, and head out to the outdoor space you've loved so much all summer. Did you know that families who eat dinner together are actually getting more benefits than you might think? A few of the perks is that kids are apt to perform better academically and have better relationships with their parents. What a great way this would be to enjoy family day in your backyard paradise!

Play Games

Spending quality time together playing games is a great way to learn more about each other, laugh together, and even get active. There are many fun games that can be enjoyed outdoors. If you like card & board games you can play them out on the picnic table, or you can find giant yard games to play. Giant Jenga, lawn Twister, and corn-hole are just a few of the games you can play in your backyard. If you have small children you can start up a game of hide-and-go seek or tag, just make sure that they know where the boundaries are, or that the gate is closed so they don't wander off accidentally.

Take A Dip In the Pool

Is your pool still open? You can take this chance to get out and enjoy it one last time before you winterize your pool. Play some of your favorite games and enjoy the sunshine before it's time to close it up. When you're ready to get your pool closed, don't forget to call Paradise Landscaping! We provide the best pool winterization at the Lake of the Ozarks, and it's hassle free for you!

Watch The Stars

Star watching can be a fun family activity that is also educational as well. Have everyone put their pajamas on, grab their favorite blanket, and lay out on the soft grass to observe the stars. You can talk about constellations, learn more about what stars are made of, and maybe even get to see a shooting star. If your children are younger you might even get lucky when the fall asleep! If you don't know any of the constellations you can download applications on your phone that will point them out when you aim it at the sky!

Go On a Scavenger Hunt

You can go looking for fun insects and plants throughout your yard, or you can plan a whole game by hiding cards around the yard and giving your kids clues to find the next one. At the end reward everyone with a special treat like ice cream in the backyard or some other special treat.

While you may want your landscape to be beautiful so that it has good curb appeal, you also want it to be beautiful so you can enjoy it! Take some time to get out and not only enjoy your outdoor space, but enjoy your lovely family as well. There's no time like the present to make memories and enjoy the ones you love - and your landscape too!

The Do's & Don'ts of Landscaping

Landscaping your yard probably seems like a huge, unending job - but it doesn't have to. There are a few things that you do want to have done, and a few things you don't want to do, but it's relatively simple. Of course, if you hire the best landscape company at the Lake of the Ozarks to help you - it's even easier! Here are a few do's and don'ts for planning the landscaping of your yard.

Do Your Research

Do you have specific plants that you want in your landscape? Make sure you do research to make sure they can actually thrive in your landscape. Or, you can count on Paradise Landscaping to help. Our landscape designer, Rich Harris can help you find the perfect blend of plants and trees you'll love, and that will love you!

Don't Think "Small Picture"

While you may be tempted to squeeze ALL of your favorite plants in your one little garden bed - don't. When landscaping, you want to think in "big pictures." Think about how everything will look in the long term, how everything will compliment each other, and if those plants all have the same location requirements.

Do Plant for Long Term

Trees and bushes will get bigger as they grow, and this can cause damage if you aren't planning for the long term. We can help you map our your landscape in a way that works best not only for you and your home but also for your dream trees and bushes!

Don't Let Weeds Invade

Weeds may seem like they're just ugly and annoying, but they can also cause damage to the plants you actually WANT in your yard. Even a "cute" weed, like a dandelion, can take over quickly and take away from the beauty of your perfect turf.

Do Fertilize Your Grass In the Fall

Did you know that your grass will react differently to fertilizer than larger plants? If you want to give your grass the best chance for success, fertilizing it now is the best way. At Paradise Landscaping, we can fertilize grass at the Lake of the Ozarks and keep it looking beautiful and healthy for longer.

Don't Ignore Overgrown Plants

While you may not like to see your giant plants being removed, keep in mind it's for the good of your landscaping and your home. Some overgrown plants don't just crowd out the rest of the garden, but they can also crowd your house, block windows, and even cause property damage. It's better to care for them now than let them get too big and regret it.

Pathways to Paradise

At Paradise Landscaping, we love to take your landscaping from an underused space to a paradise that you can enjoy all year round. This can be made possible through special landscape designs, stonework, adding water features, planting gardens, and especially by creating pathways.

A pathway can guide you to paradise through the way it winds through your gardens and landscaping. They can be made up of many differents types of materials, and even be as simple as plants lining an area. Here are some great things to remember when you start improving your landscape with pathways to paradise.

Why Place a Path?

There can be many reasons to put a path in your landscape, but one of the top reasons is because it keeps people walking where you want them. Without a path, you're essentially allowing someone to choose their own way, and with that, they can walk all over your yard, trample your grass, and even accidentally step on plants in your yard. By installing pathways, you direct them to where they need to go in a safe and practical manner.

Types of Paths

Entrance Path

This pathway should leave you with no doubt as to where to go. This pathway will guide you straight up to the front door, and provide a safe way to greet your guests. Pathways don't just create a pretty focal point - they provide a purpose for where someone will go.

Main Path

This is generally two to three feet wide and guides someone to an entertainment area. Whether it's a pathway out the back doors to your fire pit or a pathway off the side of your home to a patio with lawn furniture and a space to grill, the main path takes you where you want to go.

Functional Path

This pathway will need to be created with something solid and practical. Maybe it will be used to wheel pool chemicals to the pool house or guide you to your garage. You can use solid concrete to create a nice, functional path that gets you where you need to go, safely.

Occasional Path

This is the pathway that can guide you around the home or through your herb garden. It can be whimsical, imaginative, and creative. While you want it to be sturdy, you can use fun pieces like stepping stones, moss, and other fanciful materials.

Activity Zone

While this may not seem like a path, any area that needs to be designated as something other than grass can be considered a path. If you have an entertainment area in your yard that you want to pave with brick or solid stones, this would be your pathway to activity.

Goodbye Pool - Hello Raking!

While the first day of fall isn't officially here until September 22nd, there is just something about the first week in September that makes everything feel like Autumn. The weather has already started to take a cooler turn and some of the leaves have even started changing color here in the Ozarks. One other major change is that by the time we hit Labor Day, it is generally the sign that your pool is starting to end it's summer career.

If you're not sure how to deal with the upcoming changes that your landscape needs to take on as the weather starts to get cooler - Paradise Landscaping is here to save the day! Our team of landscapers at the Lake of the Ozarks specialize not only in creating beautiful spaces but preserving those spaces through every season. here are a few things to remember as you gear up for fall.

Winterize Your Pool

While we hate to say goodbye to this feature that has brought so much joy through the summer - it's time to start preparing your pool for winter. There can be a lot of steps involved, not to mention possible repairs to your pool from a busy summer season. Proper maintenance is a crucial part of keeping your pool looking and operating its best. We have a ten-point checklist to ensure the life of your investment. Call for details!

Remove Falling Leaves

Having the leaves removed from your landscape is crucial to maintaining a healthy lawn. The leaves can suffocate your grass, create a thriving environment for bacteria, and can create a hazardous area for walking. While they may look pretty at first, they begin to look dull and wet as the fall and winter move on.

Raking your entire yard can be quite a chore - as well as time-consuming and back-breaking. Hire our landscape maintenance team at the Lake of the Ozarks to take care of this for you!

Don't Forget Your Turf

Did you know that fall is an excellent time to take care of your turf? Whether you want to lay all new grass seed or fertilize the grass you already have the combination of cool and warm temperatures during this season make it pristine. This is also a great time to do a complete overhaul on your yard. If you've been waiting for the right time to renovate your landscaping, fall is an excellent time to do this.

Let There Be Landscaping!

At Paradise Landscaping - Irrigation & Pool Maintenance, we take your yard as seriously as we take our own. Our primary concern is that you get the paradise you've always dreamt of, and a landscape that you can enjoy spending your time in.
