6 Types of Landscape Lighting

As the summer months get closer and your family begins to migrate to the outdoors more and more, it may be time to consider lighting up your yard. Here at Paradise Landscaping, we know the value of having the appropriate landscape lighting installed around your home. Not only is the location of your lighting important, but also the type of lighting, the quality of the lighting, and even the purpose. Here are six types of lighting you can have installed around your home, and why it's important.

Are you looking for a light that would cast light from a high position? Downlights are often attached to tree trunks or branches from up high to be aimed down at lawns, paths, or even the tree's own foliage to create a moonlit effect. You won't want to skimp on materials with this type of lighting so you don't have to have them repaired frequently.

Flood lighting generally casts a wider beam than bullet lighting, and it is brighter than wash lighting. A collar minimizes the glare that this light could produce, and you'll want to have it installed sparingly to light up tall trees or wide house facades.

Wash lighting throws out a soft, diffused light that is ideal for brightening flat facades, privacy fences, and even garden walls. It can be hard to decide what type of lighting is important in your space, and Paradise Landscaping would love to share our knowledge with you.

This type of lighting is ideal for gardens and pathways. They sit about 18 to 24 inches off of the ground and cast a beautiful light below them. Unlike many other types of lighting their style and color are boldly on display and can look beautiful in your Lake of the Ozarks landscape.

Bullet lights are very versatile, compact fixtures and are often fitted with bulbs that project a narrow beam. This is perfect for areas where you need precise lightings around your landscape, such as house features, tree trunks, and garden structures.

On well lights, the bulb is set down inside a waterproof fixture that is buried in the ground. You can get light without seeing the fixture. Well, lights can be used to illuminate the underside of plant foliage or light the base of a facade or wall. They can have fixed bulbs or swiveling bulbs depending on the need.

The 411 on Landscape Flooding

If you look at the forecast, we have a lot of rain headed our way. While this could change without warning (because we're in the Midwest, the weather doesn't obey *wink*), it could even rain more than expected. At Paradise Landscaping, we are the best landscapers at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we want to give you tips and things you can expect and look for when you get a lot of rain on your landscape.

Landscape Damage

When your landscape gets too much water it can become flooded - especially with landscapes that are made up of too much clay. It's important to be aware of your landscape when it becomes flooded because you won't want to drag anything across it. If you can keep from walking across it as well, that would be beneficial. If your lawn gets flooded too often, or even when there is very little rain you may have a drainage issue. Paradise Landscaping would be able to come in and take a look to find where the drainage issue is occurring and we can help you fix it.

Be Aware of Disease

When too much water sits in your landscape, you could be at risk for disease in your plants. It starts in the roots, causing them to rot and can then lead to a diseased yard. You can tell this is happening when you start to notice yellow patches in your yard. Once a fungus sets in, it can be hard to repair it, and generally, the only option is to reseed it in the fall. Too much water can also cause shallow root growth because they don't have to go down deep to find water. Shallow root growth can then cause the grass to become stressed, which can make it more prone to damage from insects as well.

Fill Up On Fertilizer

Because your landscape is getting too much water, there are many vital nutrients that are being washed away. They won't have the chance to be absorbed into the root system, and then your lawn will start to fade quickly. You'll want to use plenty of fertilizer to help compensate for the lack of nutrients. At Paradise Landscaping, we can help you find the correct fertilizer for your landscaping as well as apply it for you.

3 Advantages to Landscape Maintenance

When you think of summer, what comes to mind? Do you think of kicking back by the pool, drinking a cold beverage, and admiring your beautiful landscape? Or do you think of hot sweaty days, spending hours on the lawn mower, covered in grass cuttings, and dehydration? If the latter is your idea of summer - Paradise Landscaping would like you to think again! Treat yourself this year to a landscape that "takes care of itself" by hiring our team of guys to provide the best lawn care maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks! Here are three advantages to hiring a lawn maintenance team and why you'll never want to go a summer without it.

Save YOU Money!

If you've ever looked at the price of lawn equipment, you probably know it costs an arm and a leg to get all of the tools you'll need. From a mower and edger to mulch and fertilizer - caring for your own lawn can be costly. Not to mention, you'll have tools that need to be winterized through the cold season, and you'll just be wasting space for 3-4 months out of the year. At Paradise Landscaping, we have everything needed to make your landscape look incredible. We can also fertilize your lawn when the appropriate time comes about, keep the hedges trimmed and beautiful, and even rake up the leaves when fall arrives.

Save YOU Hassle!

It can take a lot of effort to care for your lawn. Even if you only do the bare minimum and mow the grass when it starts to get long, you could be spending hours in the hot sun. Save yourself some effort and actually ENJOY your landscape. Let us do the heavy lifting, long hours of mowing, and planting so you can kick back and enjoy the view. Our goal is to create a paradise for you - and while part of that is in appearance, the other part is in knowing you don't have to do anything but admire it.

Save YOU Time!

Mowing isn't the only time-consuming aspect of your landscape. Mulching, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, and leaf blowing can all cost you HOURS of time. This is the time that you could be spending with your family enjoying your space. Use your summer afternoons and nights to make memories with your family. Play games in the backyard, watch the clouds drift by, jump in the pool, play fetch with the dog, and enjoy a night around the fire watching the stars. These are the memories you'll want to look back and remember. Not hours spent on the mower cutting the grass.
