Outdoor Lighting FAQs

"Why use a contractor?

There are many elements to consider when purchasing a landscape lighting system. Design layout, voltage drop, safety, maintenance contracts – just to name a few. These are all important factors that can make a difference in your installation and the life of your system. Because of this, Kichler Landscape Lighting does recommend the use of a certified contractor. Remember, this is an investment in your home, and you want it done in the best, most professional manner possible.

What materials are your landscape lights made from?

The outdoor environment requires robust construction, so we use architectural-grade materials. Kichler uses marine-grade aluminum and premium copper-content brass and bronzed materials. Fasteners and hardware feature stainless steel durability. Transformer housings are made of steel with powder coat or stainless steel options. What about the finish? Will it last? Outdoor reliability requires outdoor coatings. Kichler uses baked thermal set powder coatings over both aluminum and brass fixtures. Kichler tests for UV, heat, salt and scoring. Natural brass is processed from premium-grade materials of copper, zinc and tin. Bronzed brass is chemically treated to appear in earth tone colors at installation, while our composite products are constructed of heavy-duty polymers that are resistant to moisture absorption, corrosion and the effects of ultaviolet (UV).

Will the finish change color?

Copper, brass and bronzed brass will patina over time (a natural verdigris aging process popular in the outdoors). Finishes for fixtures installed outdoors are subject to change due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, airborne pollutants and other forms of weathering."

Tips for Winterizing Your Pool

It's been a great summer here at the Lake and while we are still in summer mode, Labor Day is almost here which marks the end of the summer season here at the Lake. The kids are going back to school and before we know it, the leaves will begin to fall off the trees and the temperatures will begin to cool off. With Fall on the mind, it is time start thinking about winterizing your pool. It is important to properly winterize your pool in order to preserve the life of your pool. Afterall, you want to enjoy your pool for many years to come. Today, your favorite landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few tips to consider for winterizing your pool this year.

Fix Any Existing Issues

If you experienced any problems with your pool throughout the season, it is important to clear these up before you winterize it. Problems you should address include: cloudy water, algae growth, or chlorine issues.

Test Your Water

Just as you have been testing your pool water all summer for proper swimming conditions, you should test your water before winterizing too. However, this is different from testing for swimming conditions. Your water needs to be prepared for freezing, not swimming.

Clean Your Pool

It is important to clean your pool after summer is over. You should brush and vacuum the pool and don't forget to give the water line a good scrub.

Lower the Water Level

You will need to lower the water level in your pool to properly winterize your pool. Often, people make the mistake of emptying their pool completely. You still need to keep some water in your pool to avoid cracks and damage to your pool. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that the water level is below the pools return outlets.

Don't Forget About Your Equipment!

In addition to the pool itself, it is important that you also winterize your equipment. Your electricity should be turned off, drain the water from the filter, heater pump, hoses, and pipes. You should store your pool equipment in a safe, dry place for Winter.

Why Should I Winterize My Pool?

You may be asking yourself why you should winterize your pool. There are many reasons you should winterize your pool at the Lake of the Ozarks. The Midwest is a big candidate for cold weather and snow. Cold temperatures can lead to your pipes freezing, cracking, and in the end causing you a huge headache. Proper maintenance is a crucial part of keeping your pool looking and operating its best.

Hire a Professional!

Our last tip for winterings your pool is to hire a professional. Your pool is one of your favorite investments and we don't want to see it gone to waste or damaged because of a mistake in the winterizing process. Our team at Paradise Landscaping is here to help ensure that is taken care of properly. That' why it's important to hire a professional pool maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks to winterize your pool for you. Give us a call today at 573-964-6515 and we would be happy to discuss winterize your pool this Fall.

Don't Overlook Fall Landscapes!

Summer is nearing an end at the Lake of the Ozarks and it's time to start thinking about your fall landscape. So many people overlook how gorgeous a fall landscape can be. Most people think about doing their landscaping in the Spring or early Summer, but why not plan a great fall landscape this year? Here a few tips for planning a great fall landscape.

Start Planning Now

It's always best to start planning as soon as possible so you can think about exactly what you want. Contact our landscaping design company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we would be happy to discuss your landscaping design. Now is the perfect time to get on our books so you can enjoy your Fall landscape all season long.

Keep Other Seasons in Mind

When you choose which plants you want, be sure to include a few plants that will look good all year. A few examples of plants that will look great through the seasons are hydrangeas, pagoda dogwood, fothergilla, and viburnums. Adding these to your landscape design will keep your yard looking great all the time.

Add Fall Colors

In addition to including plants that will look great all year, you should also include plants that have Fall colors. Mums are a great addition to any landscaping at the Lake of the Ozarks. Mums are available in a wide variety of colors and can work great to achieve a Fall landscaping look. If planted and taken care of properly there is a chance that they will come back the next year but they would have to be planted early to establish a root system. A mum is considered a "tender perennial" which means that they have a chance to come back but very harsh cold temperatures could kill them.

Keep Your Landscaping Looking Top-Notch

Having a great Fall landscape is not as simple as having our landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks come out and plant a gorgeous design. Keeping your plants healthy involves watering, pruning, and more. This can be a lot of work! Luckily, if you are not prepared to do this yourself, we offer landscape maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks. Let us keep your yard looking in tip-top shape this Fall! We can come out and make sure that your plants are fertilized, pruned, your leaves are collected, and your landscaping continues to look great all season long!

Even though many of us are still in Summer mode, fall is just around the corner. Now is the perfect time to give the best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks a call to start planning your Fall landscaping this year. Our team of experienced landscape experts can help create the landscaping of your dreams. Don't overlook how great your yard can look this fall and give us a call. Maintaining your paradise is our business and we can't wait to help design your landscape this fall.

GREEN Landscaping

The term “going green” can mean many things – conserving energy, saving money, and even beautifying your landscape! Green is Paradise Landscaping’s favorite color, and the best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you some GREEN insight on how to save some money by making your landscape more energy efficient! Try out a few of these tips and let us know what works for you.

TIP #1: Identify your region’s climate

Depending on where you live, your tactics for energy efficiency may be different. Missouri is considered a cool/temperate region, but if you live at the Lake of the Ozarks, you know our weather can be unpredictable. It’s important to maximize the warmth of the sun in the winter and shade in the summer. If you live on the Lake or near a pond, your property’s humidity may be increased or air temperature decreased. Understanding your location can help you to take the most logical and efficient approach to save money with your landscaping.

TIP #2: Plan, research, then plan some more

Planning is key when it comes to landscaping, especially energy efficient landscaping. This type of landscaping requires planning and research because in this case, there’s much more to it than just aesthetics. For the highest quality and great results, trust the best landscape design company at the Lake of the Ozarks. While we are up with the times, learning landscape design on computers and visual software, we still believe that the time-tested custom hand-drawn designs are the best. Our hand-drawn designs show a personality and feel that the computerized designs do not.

TIP #3: Position your trees

According to Better Homes & Gardens, shade trees have been proven to cool your yard by up to six whole degrees, and they can also save up to 25% of your home’s energy when it comes to heating and cooling. By shading your home and roof, you can save your air conditioner from working harder than it needs to. Trees don’t just provide shade though, they can also act as windbreaks. When landscaping at the Lake of the Ozarks, using windbreaks during the winter is ideal. Plant these trees along the north or northwest side of your home to help to slash winter heating bills by up to 30 percent!

These are just three tips, but there are numerous ways to make your landscape efficient! For more information on a GREEN landscape, call the best landscape designers at the Lake of the Ozarks. Paradise Landscaping has an educated and friendly staff that would be happy to help you in your next landscaping endeavor. As the name entails, Paradise serves to create your dream oasis at the Lake of the Ozarks. Create the perfect vacation getaway in your own backyard.
