Landscaping Tips for Before a Storm

If you have lived here at the Lake of the Ozarks for very long, then you are familiar with our weather and how we have seen our fair share of storms. There's nothing worse than having a large tree fall on your home and having to deal with the damages. The best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you a few landscaping tips you can implement before a storm so you are better prepared. For help with your landscaping changes, call Paradise Landscaping today at 573-964-6515.

Landscaping Tips for Before a Storm

Secure your trees.
Smaller, young trees are more easily knocked over by strong winds. Even though your trees may already be staked to the ground, pound the stakes even more into the ground to further secure your tree to the ground.

Trim your branches near the power lines.
One of the main issues that can happen during a storm is losing powers. One of the causes of that can be branches falling down and destroying power lines. To try and prevent this from happening, have your branches trimmed ahead of time so they are too short to fall on to your power lines.

Be sure your fountains and other water features are unplugged.
Forgetting to unplug your fountains or any other water features can result in them getting fried by lightning. Long before the storm hits, secure all electrical chords and unplug any and all water features.

Keep your gutters free of debris.
Your gutters being clogged during a heavy rainstorm can amount to even more problems. Get your gutters cleaned before the storm or hire a professional landscaping company in Camden County to do it for you.

Stay up to date on the weather.
Check the forecast and know what is expected with the weather. You may consider installing a weather application on your phone. Typically you will get notifications as to when bad weather is expected to come. There are several options to choose from, such as KY3 or KSPR Weather for example. You can list your location, so the application knows where to target your weather forecasting.

3 Reasons Why Leaves Should Be Removed From Your Lawn

Fall is here and you know that means - the leaves will be falling before you know it. While the leaves change color in the fall and it can be really pretty to look at for a while, eventually, those leaves will drop to your lawn. A bed of leaves on your lawn can actually cause some damage. Paradise Landscaping is here to give you a few reasons why leaves should be removed from your lawn. For leaf removal at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can count on, call the best landscaping company in Lake Ozark at 573-964-6515 today.

3 Reasons Why Leaves Should Be Removed From Your Lawn

Curb Appeal
Don't let your house be the eyesore on the block. Who wants to look at a bunch of dirty leaves all over your front lawn while they are walking their dog or out driving by? You have a couple of options. You can either spend a few hours raking the leaves and bagging them up OR you can call professional leaf removal company at the Lake of the Ozarks to do it for you. Either way, you should have your leaves removed.

Leaves Invite Pests
Avoid having little pests all over your lawn and get your leaves removed. Insects are attracted to piles of leaves where that they can relax and live in.

Lawn Health
Your lawn can have a hard time getting the nutrients it needs if it's covered by a massive layer of leaves.  Your lawn will need water and sunlight to survive, so allow it to have the nutrients it needs by making sure your leaves get removed.

Low Maintenance Landscaping Options

The fall season is here! It's getting colder outside and low maintenance landscaping can be great because it is less work for you during these colder months. Also, you may have less time around these upcoming holiday months and now that school is back in session to take care of your landscape. Paradise Landscaping is here to give you a few low maintenance landscaping ideas. To have any of these ideas made a part of your landscape, give our landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks a call today at 573-964-6515.

Low Maintenance Landscaping Options

A large outdoor patio
Outdoor patios can be perfect for those fall holiday parties and get-togethers. Also, they have the added perk of covering a good chunk of your land, creating less yard work for you. Paradise Landscaping specializes in hardscaping and can design an intricate patio for you. We will work with you to make sure we design the patio you are needing.

Mulch beds
Mulch is great for low maintenance landscaping because you don't have to water it or mow it. Mulch also fertilizes your plants and can add a nice aroma to your backyard.

Potted mums
Who doesn't love a pretty mum during the fall season? Potted plants, in general, can be very easy to take care and are portable. Simply water them about 3 times a week. Plus, you can move them out of the way if you are throwing an outdoor Halloween party or just having a ton of people over. Mums also can bring some needed color to your space.

Plant lavender throughout your landscape.
Lavender only needs to be watered once or twice a week and it can come back year after year. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! Also, lavender can bring a nice aroma to your backyard.

Use artificial grass in your landscape.
Artificial grass doesn't require watering or mowing which can make it a great low maintenance addition to your landscape.

Lawn Irrigation FAQs

With everything in your busy life, it can be very easy to forget to water the lawn. From dropping off the kids at school, working, grocery shopping, and anything else that may be in your normal daily routine, the time can fill up pretty quickly. Keep your lawn healthy by getting an irrigation system at the Lake of the Ozarks. Paradise Landscaping can take care of that for you. Call us at 573-964-6515 for your quote today! Keep reading for the answers to a few frequently asked questions regarding lawn irrigation.

Lawn Irrigation FAQs

Q: How often should my lawn be watered?

A: It depends on the type of soil you have, but typically your lawn will need to be watered at least 2 to 3 times per week. This can also vary depending on the weather and how often it rains.

Q: Will my water bill raise by a lot if I have an irrigation system installed?

A: Typically, having an irrigation system installed can actually save you money because your grass is being watered more efficiently than before. However, everyone is different and has different habits so this answer can depend on your specific situation.

Q: Will an irrigation system save me time?

A: Yes, an irrigation system can certainly save you time because some systems allow you to set your watering schedule up on a timer. At this point, all you have to do is sit back and allow your grass to be watered for you, which can free up your time for other things. Having an irrigation system installed can be way less labor intensive as well.

Q: Will the type of soil I have in my yard affect how often my lawn needs to be watered?

A: The type of soil you have in your hard can affect how often your lawn needs to be watered. For example, if your lawn contains sandy soil, it may need to be watered more than a lawn that only contains silty clay soil. If you are confused on how often your lawn should be watered, it can be best to check with your landscaping professional first, before doing anything. You don't water to over water or under water your lawn. Doing so can damage your lawn and cause you to have to spend even more money having it fixed.

Bring Fall to Your Landscape

Fall will be here before you know it and people are getting fall fever already! This season can be so calming, from the pumpkin spice treats to the beautiful fall colors - what's not to love? Bring some of this fall beauty to your landscape this year with help from the best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks. Paradise Landscaping is here to list a few changes you can have made to your landscape to inspire that festival fall feel. Call 573-964-6515 to make incredible changes to your landscape this season.

Fall Themed Changes You Can Make to Your Landscape

Plant Mums
What says FALL more than some festive mums planted in your yard? While most plants may stop growing at the end of summer, mums are ready to keep growing! This makes them a perfect plant to start in fall. Also, they come in many colors, which allows you to pick your favorite fall colors, perhaps different shades of orange?

Start a Fall Vegetable Garden
There are several cool season vegetables that are great to start a garden with in the fall, including but not limited to:

  • Carrots
  • Kale
  • Lettuce
  • Rutabaga
  • Swiss chard
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Kohlrabi
  • Radishes
  • Spinach
We can help by handling your hardscaping and structuring of where you want your new vegetable garden to be. This is something you will probably have for a long time, so why not have a professional who has been doing this sort of thing for years lay out a design for the structure of your garden, then build it for you.

Plant Fall Colored Trees
One of the best things about fall is all the changing colors of the leaves. The yellows, browns, and oranges all blended together can make for a very pretty sight. Why not have this in your own personal landscape? Have some fall-color trees planted. A professional landscaping company in Lake Ozark can help you decide what types of trees can work best. Here are a few examples:

  • Gingko
  • Redbud
  • Japanese maple
  • Chinese pistache
Consult with your landscaping company first to make sure you have the space for a growing tree in your yard. Also, ask about ongoing maintenance of the tree. Make sure you choose something that is realistic for you to be able to take care of or to hire someone to take care of.

Keep your beautiful fall landscape lush with an irrigation system. Proper irrigation is needed to assist in the growing and maintenance of landscapes during periods of inadequate rainfall and Paradise Landscaping can install a system for you... Paradise Landscape, Irrigation, and Pool Maintenance is well known as the best landscape design company at Lake of the Ozarks, call 573-964-6515 for your free quote today!

Outdoor Lighting FAQs

LED Lighting at the Lake of the Ozarks is important to have around your landscape and water features. It can not only be beautiful, but it is also an important safety feature for your home or business. We are a Preferred Vendor of Kichler LED Lighting. From the latest intelligent LED options to traditional incandescent choices, Paradise offers Kichler's complete landscape collection and it delivers exactly what you need. If you are looking to illuminate your landscape in an incredible way, call Paradise Landscaping today at 573-964-6515. Keep reading for the answers to a few frequently asked questions regarding outdoor lighting.

Outdoor Lighting FAQs

Source: http://www.kichler.com/professional/landscape-lighting/landscape-troubleshooting-and-faqs.aspx

"Why use a contractor?

There are many elements to consider when purchasing a landscape lighting system. Design layout, voltage drop, safety, maintenance contracts – just to name a few. These are all important factors that can make a difference in your installation and the life of your system. Because of this, Kichler Landscape Lighting does recommend the use of a certified contractor. Remember, this is an investment in your home, and you want it done in the best, most professional manner possible.

What materials are your landscape lights made from?

The outdoor environment requires robust construction, so we use architectural-grade materials. Kichler uses marine-grade aluminum and premium copper-content brass and bronzed materials. Fasteners and hardware feature stainless steel durability. Transformer housings are made of steel with powder coat or stainless steel options. What about the finish? Will it last? Outdoor reliability requires outdoor coatings. Kichler uses baked thermal set powder coatings over both aluminum and brass fixtures. Kichler tests for UV, heat, salt and scoring. Natural brass is processed from premium-grade materials of copper, zinc and tin. Bronzed brass is chemically treated to appear in earth tone colors at installation, while our composite products are constructed of heavy-duty polymers that are resistant to moisture absorption, corrosion and the effects of ultaviolet (UV).

Will the finish change color?

Copper, brass and bronzed brass will patina over time (a natural verdigris aging process popular in the outdoors). Finishes for fixtures installed outdoors are subject to change due to prolonged exposure to sunlight, airborne pollutants and other forms of weathering."

Tips for Winterizing Your Pool

It's been a great summer here at the Lake and while we are still in summer mode, Labor Day is almost here which marks the end of the summer season here at the Lake. The kids are going back to school and before we know it, the leaves will begin to fall off the trees and the temperatures will begin to cool off. With Fall on the mind, it is time start thinking about winterizing your pool. It is important to properly winterize your pool in order to preserve the life of your pool. Afterall, you want to enjoy your pool for many years to come. Today, your favorite landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few tips to consider for winterizing your pool this year.

Fix Any Existing Issues

If you experienced any problems with your pool throughout the season, it is important to clear these up before you winterize it. Problems you should address include: cloudy water, algae growth, or chlorine issues.

Test Your Water

Just as you have been testing your pool water all summer for proper swimming conditions, you should test your water before winterizing too. However, this is different from testing for swimming conditions. Your water needs to be prepared for freezing, not swimming.

Clean Your Pool

It is important to clean your pool after summer is over. You should brush and vacuum the pool and don't forget to give the water line a good scrub.

Lower the Water Level

You will need to lower the water level in your pool to properly winterize your pool. Often, people make the mistake of emptying their pool completely. You still need to keep some water in your pool to avoid cracks and damage to your pool. A good rule of thumb is to ensure that the water level is below the pools return outlets.

Don't Forget About Your Equipment!

In addition to the pool itself, it is important that you also winterize your equipment. Your electricity should be turned off, drain the water from the filter, heater pump, hoses, and pipes. You should store your pool equipment in a safe, dry place for Winter.

Why Should I Winterize My Pool?

You may be asking yourself why you should winterize your pool. There are many reasons you should winterize your pool at the Lake of the Ozarks. The Midwest is a big candidate for cold weather and snow. Cold temperatures can lead to your pipes freezing, cracking, and in the end causing you a huge headache. Proper maintenance is a crucial part of keeping your pool looking and operating its best.

Hire a Professional!

Our last tip for winterings your pool is to hire a professional. Your pool is one of your favorite investments and we don't want to see it gone to waste or damaged because of a mistake in the winterizing process. Our team at Paradise Landscaping is here to help ensure that is taken care of properly. That' why it's important to hire a professional pool maintenance company at the Lake of the Ozarks to winterize your pool for you. Give us a call today at 573-964-6515 and we would be happy to discuss winterize your pool this Fall.

Don't Overlook Fall Landscapes!

Summer is nearing an end at the Lake of the Ozarks and it's time to start thinking about your fall landscape. So many people overlook how gorgeous a fall landscape can be. Most people think about doing their landscaping in the Spring or early Summer, but why not plan a great fall landscape this year? Here a few tips for planning a great fall landscape.

Start Planning Now

It's always best to start planning as soon as possible so you can think about exactly what you want. Contact our landscaping design company at the Lake of the Ozarks and we would be happy to discuss your landscaping design. Now is the perfect time to get on our books so you can enjoy your Fall landscape all season long.

Keep Other Seasons in Mind

When you choose which plants you want, be sure to include a few plants that will look good all year. A few examples of plants that will look great through the seasons are hydrangeas, pagoda dogwood, fothergilla, and viburnums. Adding these to your landscape design will keep your yard looking great all the time.

Add Fall Colors

In addition to including plants that will look great all year, you should also include plants that have Fall colors. Mums are a great addition to any landscaping at the Lake of the Ozarks. Mums are available in a wide variety of colors and can work great to achieve a Fall landscaping look. If planted and taken care of properly there is a chance that they will come back the next year but they would have to be planted early to establish a root system. A mum is considered a "tender perennial" which means that they have a chance to come back but very harsh cold temperatures could kill them.

Keep Your Landscaping Looking Top-Notch

Having a great Fall landscape is not as simple as having our landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks come out and plant a gorgeous design. Keeping your plants healthy involves watering, pruning, and more. This can be a lot of work! Luckily, if you are not prepared to do this yourself, we offer landscape maintenance at the Lake of the Ozarks. Let us keep your yard looking in tip-top shape this Fall! We can come out and make sure that your plants are fertilized, pruned, your leaves are collected, and your landscaping continues to look great all season long!

Even though many of us are still in Summer mode, fall is just around the corner. Now is the perfect time to give the best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks a call to start planning your Fall landscaping this year. Our team of experienced landscape experts can help create the landscaping of your dreams. Don't overlook how great your yard can look this fall and give us a call. Maintaining your paradise is our business and we can't wait to help design your landscape this fall.

Let us create the perfect PARADISE in your own backyard!

GREEN Landscaping

The term “going green” can mean many things – conserving energy, saving money, and even beautifying your landscape! Green is Paradise Landscaping’s favorite color, and the best landscaping company at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to give you some GREEN insight on how to save some money by making your landscape more energy efficient! Try out a few of these tips and let us know what works for you.

TIP #1: Identify your region’s climate

Depending on where you live, your tactics for energy efficiency may be different. Missouri is considered a cool/temperate region, but if you live at the Lake of the Ozarks, you know our weather can be unpredictable. It’s important to maximize the warmth of the sun in the winter and shade in the summer. If you live on the Lake or near a pond, your property’s humidity may be increased or air temperature decreased. Understanding your location can help you to take the most logical and efficient approach to save money with your landscaping.

TIP #2: Plan, research, then plan some more

Planning is key when it comes to landscaping, especially energy efficient landscaping. This type of landscaping requires planning and research because in this case, there’s much more to it than just aesthetics. For the highest quality and great results, trust the best landscape design company at the Lake of the Ozarks. While we are up with the times, learning landscape design on computers and visual software, we still believe that the time-tested custom hand-drawn designs are the best. Our hand-drawn designs show a personality and feel that the computerized designs do not.

TIP #3: Position your trees

According to Better Homes & Gardens, shade trees have been proven to cool your yard by up to six whole degrees, and they can also save up to 25% of your home’s energy when it comes to heating and cooling. By shading your home and roof, you can save your air conditioner from working harder than it needs to. Trees don’t just provide shade though, they can also act as windbreaks. When landscaping at the Lake of the Ozarks, using windbreaks during the winter is ideal.
